Sushi Park & Pommes Frites before and after (via PIX 11) |
I live in the city that never sleeps and recently a very traumatic event happened. My favorite two places to frequent for food is now lost and gone due to an apparent failed gas upgrade.
On the left photo you will see that before the accident lies two restaurants Sushi Park and Pommes Frites. Both have been a large staple of my food life in NYC. I've been going to both places since 2006 when I graduated high school. Sushi Park was known for their 50% off sushi prices as well as their lunch specials. The service to me was pretty great since going their for a long time they got to know me and were always nice and sweet to me. I'm really going to miss their Flower Maki and Tai Salad... that was always my order. Pommes Frites was the Belgian fry place where they had the BEST poutine before they changed the sizing for it. Definitely going to miss the Mango Chutney and Rosemary Garlic sauce.. matter of fact... all the sauces were banging.
I have a lot of fond memories in Sushi Park especially when it went through two name changes (May's Place then back to Sushi Park) as well as 3-4 menu changes. Also when the Ramen Robayataki was their sister store and they also changed like twice. I've taken my family there, had birthday parties with friends, long time no see in a while dinners, awkward dinners with people whom had no place in my life, third party grill the boyfriend/girlfriend dinners, dates with guys... just so many memories gone. It was the best place for really good sushi for the price.
I have many fond memories of Pommes Frites as well. The first summer I went like nights in a row in 2006 and they remembered me and my order because my friends and I went at the same time that month once we discovered it. Or when I took one of my kids their for his first time and introduced him to the poutine. We had it every other day during the fall because it kept us nice and comfy warm. Or when I took another one of my kids there after school on the way home because he was behaving and his favorite treat would be to have french fries. Or my odd drunken night with a fellow classmate after my first four lokos and I made a complete and utter fool of myself and he probably thinks I'm just a dumb bitch ha. Or the time I was sitting outside on the chairs waiting for a friend to meet up with me for dinner and I saw Lee Norris (Stuart Minkus from Boy Meets World & Marvin 'Mouth' McFadden on One Tree Hill) walk by and we smiled and waved at each other.
I am going to miss this corner of the East Village so very much. It brings me tears as I write this post. I pray for all those injured, missing and gone. You will be greatly missed by all of NYC whose lives you have impacted.
